They also go by Misty Day— their artist name. They consider themself lucky to have grown up in the creatively inspiring city of Angels. In their youth, they established an artistic background in various mediums within performing arts such as classical voice, ballet, contemporary dance, and theatre. They first started shooting film at age 12 and it remained an occasional hobby until they took up portraiture as a freelancer nearly ten years later. They additionally completed their bachelors degree in Media Arts Production from Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts where they focused on cinematography and sound design. Their cinematography studies, in conjunction with the pandemic, is what inspired them to take up film photography again as a medium for creative direction and portraiture. Currently, they are finishing their masters degree in Audiovisual Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London. In addition to their photography work, Angela is a DJ. You can see them play online here at Brixton Radio every other Monday from 4-6 pm.

Light is always changing and that mesmerizes me. The inexhaustible variety of life enchants me. I seek to be both a poetic documentarian of the world and a visual designer of what our world could be. People are richly and beautifully complex, and I seek to gently elevate the stories they carry in their eyes or the stories they seek to actualize. Much of my work as a photographer comes alongside the photos I create. Portraiture is about genuine human connection. It is about creating an environment of comfort and trust to enable the true magic of flowing with my clients and collaborators. It is within this space of faith that truth can be achieved and art can prosper.

Aesthetically and thematically, I have greatly been inspired by gothic textures in the past few years. I have been intrigued by darkness and have used this conceptual framework to guide me artistically as well. I love scenes that are beautiful and yet, haunting, figures that transcend human-likeness, the compelling anonymity of the veil, powerful feminine sensuality and sexuality, and expression that transcends gender binaries. My work overall has veered towards this gothic sensibility, as I have in my personal life undertaken an interest in witchcraft, the shadow self, the older parts of the world, and decay.

I love working the most with musicians in helping to craft their visual identity and in creating promotional material for their music. Additionally, I love working with designers in a fashion editorial sense. Beyond the gothic, I also greatly appreciate the whimsical, surreal, avant-garde, grotesque, strange, and beautiful.
